Hand Crafted Spalted & figured Birch console table reclaimed from Aldo Leopold Nature Center.
I came across this incredible piece of Birch at Habitat Restore West with a collection of other Ash and Maple from the Aldo Leopold Foundation in Baraboo, WI.
There are so many cool things going on with the grain that it defies me to accurately describe. Suffice it to say, if I’ve heard a term for figuring or coloring in grain, you can likely find an example of it in this table.
I kept my impact on this piece as minimal as possible while retaining as much of the original tree as I could. Checks and cracks were few and I was able to stabilize and fill with nominal epoxy. Rubio Monocoat Pure was used as the finish.
All of the work is done in our family’s woodshop just beyond the Terminal Moraine in Cross Plains, WI.
